Nomination letter and praise by Linda Wilson, Art Teacher at GHS:
RE: Nomination for Art Advocate Award; Violeta Chinni, Galion High School French Teacher
It is with great pleasure that I nominate my co-worker Ms. Violeta Chinni for this distinguished award.
This is Violeta's 4th year at Galion High School, and she has greatly changed our foreign language program with her excellent integration of art in her curriculum. Violeta is an artist in her own right, and previously operated a gallery in Mansfield, Ohio, prior to her employment with Galion High School. She frequently incorporates art in her curriculum, and her students are responsible for artistically creating a bulletin board for French Club, as well as projects involving drawing, painting, and the creation of their own fleur-de-lis designs. ORGANIZED cheese tasting EVENT FOR French 3 Students
Throughout the world, France is known as a land of three hundred cheeses. French people take their cheeses seriously and have a famous saying: “La journée sans fromage est comme la journée sans solei.” A day without cheese is like day without sun.
This tradition of cheese tasting was recently brought to Ms. Violeta Chinni’s French 3 classroom at Galion High School. Her students were introduced to six different cheeses with various tastes, smells and textures.
Served cheeses ranged from soft cheeses with a natural and washed rind, pressed and cooked cheeses, to blue-veined and goat cheeses. The cheese tasting menu included five French cheeses: Brie, Camembert, Muenster, Blue Cheese, Chèvre Goat Cheese and one Swiss cheese, Gruyère.
“I love bringing lessons to life whenever possible,’ said Ms. Chinni. “My students enjoy learning about foods and nutrition in France and other French speaking countries.” Read full article.

IMPELMENTED FLEXIBLE SEATING CLASSROOM
Galion High School French teacher Violeta Chinni heard about the flexible seating classroom idea from her colleague, Molly Fairchild. After a two-week research period, Chinni put together a plan for fundraising, acquisition of furniture through donations and crowd-sourcing, an implementation schedule and the official Flexible Seating rollout.
“I officially rolled out flexible seating in my French classes February 13, 2017,” said Chinni. “My main goal for the Flexible Seating classroom arrangement was to provide students alternative seating options to help them relax, focus, engage, and achieve their academic goals.” Read full article.

NAMEd MOST INFLUENTIAL PERSON by JUN HAO ZHENG, CLASS of 2016
Ms. Chinni is also my school’s French teacher. Although I am not taking French, she has allowed me to stay in her classroom for one of my study halls. I am grateful for this since it allows me to stay connected to my high school. Lately, I have witnessed other post-secondary students drifting farther and farther away from people at their high schools. It is very possible that this may happen to me because only two of my classes are at my school, while others are at OSU Mansfield. Ms. Chinni is doing her part to prevent this unintended consequence from occurring. In addition, I am grateful to her for allowing me to go on this year’s French trip. We will spend a few days in Canada, and I can already tell that this experience will provide numerous insights into French culture in our neighboring country. Ms. Chinni was the one that convinced me to go on this trip; although I was told by friends that were going on the trip that it would be a fun experience, I was initially uninterested. Ms. Chinni persuaded me by stating that every high school should go on at least one trip before graduating. As a senior, this would be my last chance; I would regret it for the rest of my life if I didn’t take this opportunity. She also has given me hope regarding my love of reading. I had previously thought that I would never have enough time in the future to read. I feared that my love of reading would diminish over time. Ms. Chinni is an indisputable example that this may not always be the case. She clearly still loves reading, and she has even started a small book club with some of her students. All things considered, she has had a major positive impact on me. I am truly fortunate to know her, and I hope that she continues to have such a profound effect on others.

Honored HURRICANE Katrina Victims
Galion High School students in Ms. Violeta Chinni’s French classes honored the victims of the Hurricane Katrina with a special project done during the National French Week in November, 2015. The ‘Fleur-de-Lis Project’ was an extension of the students’ class trip to New Orleans, LA in May, 2015.
“For me, working on the Fleur-de-Lis Project brought back memories from our class trip to New Orleans,” junior Ava Donnersbach said. “I believe this project is an amazing work of art that symbolizes working together to create something beautiful, just like people of New Orleans rebuilding the city after Katrina.”
The project consisted of all students creating a tile piece showcasing the “Fleur-de-Lis’ symbol, which were then all combined into an art piece resembling a quilt. The finished piece was displayed in the High School cafetorium during the National French Week last November. Read full article.
